Tora’s New Mk2 Tora’s Mk2 is the best of both from WW1 and WW2. Tora’s Mk2 has a 34cm long blade with weight guidance 585-660g, from a WW1 1918 Mk2 with the handle design from a WW2 Pioneer ‘43 Full Tang handle with wooden slabs. The Mk2 was a general issue Kukri for Indian Army troops that were entitled to have a Kukri i.e some of the Chindits. Even Merrill’s Marauders had some of them issued. There is circumstantial evidence that Gurkhas were issued them, especially in WWI with the 3/3rd Gurkhas and the 1/9th.

Nobody is quite sure why the Mk2 was introduced. It may well be that as the Mk1's got heavier and heavier, culminating in the Cossipore debacle (although their MK2's were well-made), that it was decided a new type of kukri for general issue was needed.  The Mk2 kukri came with a full tang handle.  The best full tangs were either nicely tapered or had tang's that were not too wide (unlike the horrendous width on the the Mk4), but not too thin either, so there was not too much weight in the hand and ensuring the handle width wasn't too wide.  Like the Mk1, the Mk2's came with a variety of scabbards, frogs and handle sizes.  The blades were as a general rule from 33-34cm in length with weight ranges from 580-700g.

Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.

For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please watch this video.

We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.

Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood colour, chakmak & karda style etc may well occur. You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.

Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.
