The original Pattern of the British Service Issue kukri was possibly introduced in 1960.. The various types of BSI kukri over the years saw active service in the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), the Borneo Confrontation (1962-1966), and the Falklands war in 1982.

Tora's 2024 BSI is based on a 1967 issue BSI and will come with a 28.5 cm long Hollow Forged blade and a rough weight guideline of between 450-525 grams. It has a stick tang horn handle and comes with military scabbard, frog and Chakmak & Karda utility knives.

*The current British Service Issue, introduced in the 1990's, is a very poor variant of the 1960 and1970 BSIs. It usually has a standard stock blade with a length of 26.5cm, and a weight around 575 grams! There is no comparison to the 1967 version in Tora's honest opinion.

An account of the 1967 BSI being used. Dalbahadur Rai 1/7th Hong Kong 1967: “We worked in three-man groups, armed with large truncheons and kukri.” “He was big and strong and had two knives. I closed in on him and he attacked me. We wrestled. He then slashed at me, cutting my jacket. I took my kukri out to deal with him. I raised it but, as I brought it down, it snagged on a branch so hitting him in the back and breaking his spine. If I had not hit the tree, he would have been killed. He fell and couldn’t get up, I disarmed him. There was blood everywhere. I bound him up as best I could with my first field dressing".

Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.

For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please watch this video.

We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.

Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood colour, chakmak & karda style etc may well occur. You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.

Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.

Superb!!!

I own a few kukuri’s from different manufacturers and I must say that this one is far superior in every way. The fit and finish are top notch. The lighter weight and slightly thinner blade make the functionality and maneuverability much better than any other that I’ve used. It actually chops through thick branches faster than the heavier, thicker ones by biting much deeper into the wood on every swing. The pricing makes Tora the best value around by far. I’m extremely pleased! ~Jerry Muns~ Hartland, Michigan.Jerry Muns (6 Jun 2022, 17:46)

My brown box covered in tape finally arrived. Inside was this wonderfully packaged beautiful specimen of a blade. 100% satisfied. If you've been thinking about one, go ahead you won't regret it. And that knot your wife puts on your head Will go away eventually. Anthony Tidwell (29 Aug 2021, 04:43)

Top quality blade

I’ve bought kukri from various manufacturers over the years and none of them can compare in quality and craftsmanship to a Tora made kukri. This kukri has beautiful lines,is a sharp and fast handling knife, exactly what is required in a fighting blade.Once again a credit to the kami for turning out another exceptional kukri as this kind of work is definitely worth both the price and the wait.Stephen Herbert (12 Dec 2020, 03:44)
