Tora's WW1 2/8th GR Kukri has a blade length of 33.5cm. It has a wooden stick tang handle with a WW1 butt cap. Weight range 485-560g.
This kukri is produced in memory and gratitude for the following:
Battle of Loos, 25th September 1915 (Third battle of Artois). The 2/8th was involved in the Loos offensive to take the high ground south of Haut Pommereau and hellish fighting ensued with most of the Gurkhas being mown down before they reached their objectives. By roll call in the evening there was only one British Officer and 49 men out of the 500 odd who went to the attack in the morning. Extreme gallantry was shown by the Officers and men of the 2/8th. Subadar Sarabjit Gurung was awarded a posthumous IOM 2nd class.
Official record - by 3.30pm the battalion strength was 1 British Officer, 1 Gurkha Officer and 30 other ranks. They were put into reserve, ending their participation. Casualties of the 2/8th at Loos, Killed 165, Wounded 139, Missing 166 (of whom many were wounded and later died).
Extract from a letter by the Brigade Major - "One British Officer and 49 men were all they could muster on the evening of the 25th September out of the 500 odd who went to the attach in the morning".
It comes with Military Style Scabbard and the chakmak and karda utility knives.
