Product Information
Specification
This a kukri of the highest quality reproduced by Tora and is in our view, undoubtedly a WW1 Officers Kukri.

Officers of that period had orderly's to make camp for them, or in the jungle bashas, as well as prepare food for them etc., and would have used their service Kukri for such tasks. This kukri would have been an excellent side arm for an officer on operations, and although capable of utility tasks, he wouldn't have needed to do them as his orderly did that for him.

The Kukri has a 35cm long blade with a single fuller (angkhola), a belly depth of 5.7cm and a rough weight guideline of approx 550-625 grams. The handle is Buffalo horn with a stick tang. It comes with a military scabbard and frogs with Tinder Pouch and 8.5cm Chakmak and Karda utility knives.

Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.

For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please watch this video.

We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.

Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood/horn colour, chakmak & karda style etc may well occur.

You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.

Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.

‘The Second Step’ by Adrian Hayter; which covers his experiences as Gurkha Officer in the 2/2nd GR in from 1934 to the Malayan Emergency
“My orderly came and took my rifle and equipment for cleaning, but first he drew the kukhri from its scabbard and laid it on my bed. This was my personnel weapon and stayed in my tent, and having dried the scabbard he would return the blade to it and hang it on my bunk…..There was not time to recall my orderly to bring my rifle and equipment, so grabbing the naked kukhri lying on the bed I ran between the tent ropes tightening in the rain, towards the Cavalry lines…..but all I carried was a naked kukhri, and soon left them (weapon laden) Gurkhas behind….I raised the kukhri and charged, and they sprang aside to avoid the slashing blade….He turned and clubbing his rifle made a desperate swipe at my head, but I caught the butt in my left hand and raised the kukhri….The bent neck was in an ideal position for the killing stroke."

WW1 Officers Angkhola

I left it a while before I wrote a review, I wanted to use the Khukri a couple of times first so I didn't end up posting future updates. When I purchased this Angkhola I suppose I expected it to be similar to my other Angkhola's by HI and KH but it really is rather different. When it arrived, it felt rather lightweight in comparison with the aforementioned and indeed it is rather a lot lighter but not so much as it feels. This is largely down to the rather superior balance the Tora Khukri has. I questioned Simon and Leanne about this perceived lightness, stating that I'd be concerned about doing heavy work with it (I need not have worried, it's more than up to the task) and I was informed that the Angkhola was intended more as a sidearm than a shovel / Tire lever / hammer (usual levels of village Khukri utility) so the lighter handling makes more sense viewed in that light. As I said, I need not have worried; thanks to the Angkhola, all of the Buddleia at the side of my property has now gone and I didn't even need to touch up the edge - remarkable! The only gripe I have is that my particular example has a slight overhang at the cross guard, that is to say that the handle is everso slightly smaller in diameter than the crossguard, an issue I resolved by whipping the upper section of the handle with waxed cotton yarn, looks great and provides even more grip (not that this is an issue). The accompanying scabbard, Karda and chakmak are all excellent, far better than I've been able to purchase to date and considering the cost difference between this and other Amero-khukris out there, it's a travesty that people are buying anything other than real, Nepalese made Khukri's. This is one of the best Angkhola's you can buy at any price.Paul Joyce (30 Aug 2023, 18:51)
