A superb example by Tora of a 19th century Kukri of the type used in the Anglo Nepali War of 1814-1816 by the Warrior cast (Chhetri), the Khas caste and the Thapa’s that earned such a great reputation in the close Quarter fighting that happened in that War. There is circumstantial evidence that the 66th Goorkhas (Gurkhas) were using that style of Kukri in the Indian Mutiny. It has a 36cm long blade with a lovely wide Angkhola, with a wooden partial tang handle, housed in a military scabbard, but as was the tradition with these Kukri originally worn, they come with no frogs due to the fact they were carried by being pushed through their sash.
The Tora Goorkhali Angkhola has a 36cm long blade, a rough weight guideline of 475-550 grams. It has a traditional partial tang wooden handle and comes with a traditional style scabbard and the Chakmak & Karda utility knives (no frog).
Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.
For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please watch this video.
We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.
Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood colour, chakmak & karda style etc may well occur. You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.
Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.
