My first Tora
Although I have numerous other Kukuris from different Nepalese manufacturers , this is my first Tora Blades model and what a classic ! Having received it I am now wondering why I didnt buy a Tora blade before . If like me you have been around and owned or used knives for many years it is obvious that the Tora Forces Mk3 is a robust well made kukuri that is crying out to be used in any bushcraft / campcraft environment but also in any modern day tactical / military theatre of war especially places like Iraq and Afghanistan etc where apart from a strong utility blade it would also be useful as a backup sidearm ! The traditional handmade Forces Mk3 kukuri itself has what I presume to be a 5160 carbon steel blade with a length of 13.5" ( inches ) and a belly depth of 6mm and a thickness of 8mm at the bolster . so with its 13.5" blade which is forward weighted it would make a very good chopping / slicing knife in say a jungle environment and could even be used for battoning . The blade has a deep fuller running under the spine which helps reduce the weight and give some balance when in use . There is a neat wide cho as in all traditional style kukuris . The blade itself is finished in a high shine and I cannot see any grind marks on mine making it look very professionally made indeed . The stick tang handle ( from bolster to butt cap ) measures 5.5" and is absolutely handsomely carved from what I presume to be some kind of Indian Rosewood and is slightly curved with a nice flare to the end ( as once again in the traditional style ) , there is also a comfortable centre ring carved into the handle that fits nicely between my two middle fingers . The bolster and butt cap are polished steel are very well fitted with the butt cap having two flush fitted retaining screws giving a more secure handle . With the Forces Mk3 you also get a very usable 8" Karda knife with the same metal fittings and wood handle . The kard comes sharp as with the kukuri and could be used as a great side knife for smaller campcraft chores such as peeling , whittling , feather sticking or even skinning . The whole package comes together with a very well made traditional buffalo leather covered scabbard . This scabbard has a pouch for the karda knife and also a tinder pouch which could be useful in survival situations , it also is fitted with a removable leather military style frog used for belt carry or if it is removed there are two potuka buttons so that the scabbard can be retained in a sash or belt . The scabbard is finished of at the bottom with a brass chape . All in all this Forces Mk3 is very good value for money considering you are getting a genuine hand made traditional Nepalese Kukuri reproduced to an old style model that can actually be used for its intended purpose , as I said this is not just a wall hanger but a practical use kukuri as I believe all Tora kukuris are ! I must finish this review by saying a big thankyou to the Kamis who make these kukuris in the time tested traditions .Mike (5 Feb 2024, 16:08)
MK3 Excellent Quality
Love this Kukri. Using it to chop saplings and vines to reclaim my back yard! Weight is perfect and balance allows an easy swing! The Karda is a perfect size to be very useful. Have ordered a MK2 to have a mate to my MK3 Kukri. Can wait to receive that one. Amazing how easy iy slices through the vegetation. Thank you Simon for offering such an excellent product at a very affordable price. Totally worth the delivery time! Robert Guernon (22 Feb 2023, 05:41)
