Product Information

Please note - you are placing a pre-order for this kukri.

The original Pattern of the British Service Issue kukri was possibly introduced in the 1950's. This type of kukri saw active service in the Malayan Emergency (1948-1960), the Borneo Confrontation (1962-1966), and the Falklands war in 1982.

Tora's 2019 BSI (based on the 70's issue) generally has a 30-31cm long Hollow Forged blade with a belly of 5.5cm and a rough weight guideline of between 450-525 grams. It has a stick tang horn handle and comes with military scabbard and frogs and Chakmak & Karda utility knives with 8.5cm blades.

*The current British Service Issue, introduced in the 1990's, is a very poor variant of the 1970's model. It usually has a standard stock blade with a length of 26.5cm, and a weight around 575 grams!!! No comparison to the 1970's version in Tora's honest opinion.

Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.

For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please use this link.

We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.

Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood colour, chakmak & karda style etc may well occur. You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.

Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.

1970's issue Kukri

Had one before that was the business. Great to handle and use. Sadly it was stolen. So another on order (Jan 28 2015, 06:57 AM)

Small size big capabilities.

A well made piece of kit. Very well balanced, good fit and finish and comes with a reasonable working edge. Good thick leather on scabbard and a well made horn handle. Being a fencer I've put it through its paces as a 'small sabre' at which it excels. It simply acts as an extension to my arm. I've used it for general work in the wood shed and bushcraft and so far it's held up very well. I've been pleasantly surprised to see what it can handle as compared to all it's bigger brothers. I'll have to try it in the kitchen next. I can highly recommend it as a good all round tool. Oh and it does all of that and only weighs 438 grammes. That is a hell of a lot of tool in a light weight handy package. The sandpaper/phone book sharpening method works very well. (Jun 19 2014, 16:39 PM)

Tora BSI

Tora always represented a unique way in modern kukri making for me. I own an 1970 issue BSI, which is surprisingly light with 400 grams, has an excellent heat treat and sturdy construction. As a handmade product it is not without minor cosmetic flaws but that's no problem for me. It is good for play and for display too. (Aug 20 2013, 09:17 AM)

The Tora BSI

I have had other British Service Issues from other Kukri manufactures and this Tora BSI is a better blade because of it's balance, excellent heat treat, authentic weight, good looks, and performance. I read about the BSI: "Blade Lengths of 11 inches are the norm on the 60s, 70s & 80s pieces, weights are usually in region of 14oz. to 17oz." In keeping with the above observations the Tora BSI 1960's version is right on tract and I am happy to have bought one. (Jun 25 2013, 19:05 PM)
