The Tora Tamang/Bagale kukri is replicated from an original kukri belonging to a close friend of ours (who also happens to be our Tora Shipping Agent), which was showed to us whilst we were in Nepal during February 2017.

The Tamang (Ta=horse, Mang=trader in Tibetan) people typically live in the high hills of the Kathmandu Valley and originate from Tibet. They are often seen wearing a kukri stuck in the potuka (waist sash). This Tamang kukri is a typical villager kukri for general utility work.

The Tora Tamang kukri has a stick tang wooden handle with diamond keeper, blade length of approximately 35cm, belly depth of 4.5cm and a weight guideline of 525-600g. It comes with traditional Nepalese scabbard with Tinder Pouch, a 12cm bladed Karda and traditional style chakmak.

Click here for video description and here.

Tora kukri are traditional handmade kukri, made in Nepal, and not the usual export and tourist kukri found on many other websites. Tora strives to make kukri to the traditional specifications as per the original models.

For an easy way to sharpen your kukri please watch this video.

We strongly recommend that the wooden parts on all kukri are treated with the appropriate oil and wood treatment prior to use.

Please note that because all of our kukri are hand-made, variances in size, weight, wood colour etc may well occur. You must be 18 yrs and over to purchase any knife or sword.

Please note that the kukri are now sent directly from Nepal.

Great Kukri for this price (and in general)

First of all I want to thank the torablades team and the great Kukri smiths for their work. I received my Kukri all the way to western Europe in mere 1.5 weeks after shipment from Nepal. It was promised to arrive Dec. 2020 to Feb. 2021 but it arrived in early November 2020. Awesome work on the wooden handle, very fine craftsmanship. Blade is beautiful and comes covered in oil (the oil was everywhere), the edge was totally fine for instant use. Karda is awesome too, don't think it's all too sturdy, but the handle and blade look good, will probably only use it for cutting food and soft carving. Scabbard fits very well, material quality appears fine but only time will tell for something like leather. The buttons/nails on it stand out, bc they are handmade! Very nice touch. All in all very happy for this price, shipping price was very fair from Nepal to western Europe and DHL did a good job as well.Gabriel (27 Nov 2020, 04:29)
